Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom.
One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts.
They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty—and I will meditate on your wonderful works. (Psalm 145:3–5)
The word “wonderful” is one of the more common ways we describe something positive. But this word carries much more weight than we often attribute to it. This word literally means “full of wonder.” It’s used in Isaiah 9:6 to describe Jesus as our Wonderful Counselor.
Our Savior is truly wonderful—beyond anything we can comprehend. We could never wrap our human minds around all that he is. That’s great news for us. When we experience difficulty, pain, or heartbreak, we can know that he is bigger than what’s in front of us.
Take a moment to think about the wonder of our Savior and thank God for sending us a gift so much greater than we can imagine.
God, I cannot wrap my mind around your greatness. You are beyond what I can understand. Although I can’t grasp all that you are, I want to know you more. Help me see you in a new way this season. Remind me that the gift of your Son, Jesus, gives me hope even when I can’t see any reason to have hope. I acknowledge that my vision is limited, but you see beyond anything I can see. I trust you.
