Day 1: Wonderful Counselor

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)

The Christmas season is full of many great things. Our calendars fill up with gatherings, events, and things to do. As fun as the season can be, Christmas becomes most meaningful to us when we pause and reflect on the gift of Jesus.

That’s what we’ll do during the next four weeks of Advent. We’ll focus on the promise of a Savior who can change everything for us. The miracle of Christmas isn’t just something that happened long ago; it’s a miracle that continues today. The birth of Jesus and all he makes possible for us never ends.

For all our worries, sorrows, joys, desires, anxieties, and doubts—a Savior comes and gives us exactly what we need most. And he never stops coming for us.

God, thank you for the birth of your Son, Jesus. Thank you for the relationship I can have with you because of him. Help me focus on being with you this Advent season more than anything else. Please show me where you are working in my life, and draw me closer to you.
