Day 21: Peace in Suffering

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. (2 Corinthians 1:3–4)

Jesus never promised us an easy life or a life without hardships and trials. In fact, he told his disciples that we could plan on having trouble in this world. The good news for us today is that Jesus is our primary comforter and the giver of peace when our circumstances are anything but peaceful. This doesn’t mean that everything will work out the way we want it to, but it means that when hard times come, we can count on the presence of Jesus to bring us comfort.

The beauty of this passage is that God’s comfort can be shared. Is there someone in your life with whom you can share the comfort of God? Send them a text, call, or ask them to get coffee today. Thank God for how he comforts you, and ask him to use you to comfort others this season.
